DELIVERY OF MV SKRETTING GRO MARKS NEXT STEP IN SUSTAINABLE SHIPPING PARTNERSHIP

23rd of July 2026

Vertom Group is proud to announce the delivery of MV Skretting Gro by Chowgule Shipyards in India. As the fourth vessel in Vertom’s innovative series of 6,000 DWT diesel-electric short sea vessels, following MV Vertom Rita, MV Vertom Rian and MV Jill C, MV Skretting Gro marks the next step in Vertom’s fleet renewal programme. The vessel is also the first in the series dedicated to the long-term partnership between Skretting, Vertom and Strand Shipping.

Designed for lower-emission operations

The 99-metre vessel features a box-shaped dry cargo hold, optimised for flexible cargo operations and maximum cargo intake. The design combines efficient cargo capacity with reduced energy consumption, supported by an optimised hull form and a diesel-electric propulsion system. By using four smaller generator sets instead of one conventional main engine setup, the vessel’s energy load can be distributed more efficiently and adjusted to the actual sailing profile. This allows the engines to operate closer to their most efficient range, helping to reduce fuel consumption and emissions while maintaining strong operational performance within the European short sea market.

MV Skretting Gro has been fitted with four bulkheads, further improving cargo operation flexibility and making the vessel well suited for carrying different cargo parcels. The vessel is also equipped with an upgraded shore power connection and a tank heating system, supporting future-ready operations and the use of alternative fuels, such as biofuels.

The vessel will also be fitted with wind-assisted propulsion technology supplied by Econowind. The VentoFoils are scheduled to be installed in Brake, Germany, in the first week of August. These wind-assisted propulsion units use available wind conditions to generate additional forward thrust, helping to reduce fuel consumption and emissions during sailing operations.

Strengthening partnerships

The collaboration with Skretting has further strengthened Vertom’s focus on sustainable shipping solutions. MV Skretting Gro is the first vessel in the series dedicated to the long-term partnership between Skretting, Vertom and Strand Shipping. Within this cooperation, Vertom acts as vessel owner and oversees the construction of the vessels, while Strand Shipping will manage the day-to-day operation of the fleet, bringing its operational knowledge and strong presence in the Scandinavian market.

Skretting’s ambition to reduce the environmental impact of its supply chain encouraged all partners to look beyond the original vessel design and work together on additional technologies that support lower-emission maritime logistics for the aquaculture industry. Kühne+Nagel also played an important role in bringing the parties together, helping to lay the foundation for this long-term cooperation. MV Skretting Gro is therefore a tangible result of a shared commitment to building a more sustainable and future-ready transport solution for the aquaculture industry.

A shared step forward

“The delivery of MV Skretting Gro marks another important step in our fleet renewal strategy and in our long-term partnership with Skretting and Strand Shipping,” said Tom Engø, Manager of Strand Shipping (strategic partner of Vertom Group). “This first dedicated vessel for Skretting strengthens our partnership even further. With the delivery of MV Skretting Gro, Vertom continues to invest in practical and scalable innovations that support the transition toward lower-emission maritime transport.”

“MV Skretting Gro marks an important step forward for Skretting Norway’s inbound logistics. For the first time, we will have greater control over the vessel and have secured sufficient, environment friendly and efficient shipping capacity for our feed mills. The partnership with Strand Shipping, Vertom and Kuehne-Nagel has made this possible. We are excited to start this journey together. The planning and further optimization starts now”, says Elin Norheim, Procurement Director at Skretting Norway.
